Indonesia has become the latest country to restrict access to certain 'high-risk' online platforms for children under 16. These platforms include TikTok, Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, Threads, X, and Roblox. Under the new rules, the government will begin deleting existing accounts for users under 16 on these major platforms starting March 28. Indonesia's Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs, Muhara Khafiz, stated, 'Through these rules, the government will restrict access for children under 16 to high-risk digital platforms, which include social networking and networking services.' These rules will make Indonesia one of the first non-Western countries to impose age-based restrictions on children's access to digital platforms, which the government describes as a response to the growing risks faced by young internet users.
