The death toll from the catastrophic floods that hit large regions of Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, and Sri Lanka in recent days has risen to 818 this Sunday, while hundreds of people remain missing.

The authorities of these Asian countries rushed to find the missing, as well as clear roads and remove debris after the areas were hit by torrential rains, flash floods, and landslides.

Authorities continued to distribute aid to tens of thousands of affected people left homeless.

Meanwhile, in Malaysia, floods submerged large areas of the northern state of Perlis, leaving two dead.

Finally, Sri Lanka's Disaster Management Center reported that at least 212 people died after a week of heavy rains caused by Cyclone Ditwah, while another 218 are still missing.

Indonesia is the nation most affected so far, reporting at least 442 dead and 402 missing, according to a disaster management agency count.

In Thailand, where the floods were ranked as one of the worst in the decade, at least 162 people lost their lives.

Although rains are subsiding in some areas, several regions remain cut off and underwater, with collapsed roads and disrupted services, according to the Argentine News Agency.
