A senior Indonesian government official stated that the island of Sumatra will require $3.11 billion for reconstruction and recovery following a series of floods that resulted in casualties. The head of Indonesia's agency for disaster mitigation, Suhariono, added that the funds needed to finance recovery in the Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra regions may continue to increase as the agency continues to assess the extent of the damage. At a cabinet meeting in Aceh, Suhariono explained that Aceh region requires the largest portion of the funding among the three affected regions.
