In Indonesia, the band "Fantasia Tuli" presented the first musical theater with the participation of artists and a work team of the deaf. The show draws inspiration from Western deaf theater in the United States and sheds light on the education of children with special needs in Indonesian schools.
The theater titled "Songs of Silence" revolves around the experiences of students in a preparatory school for children with hearing impairments. The deaf performer here is Arithea Oktavia, who expressed the importance of the show as a catalyst for evaluating sign language and communicating with the deaf community.
The theater is characterized by a presentation showcasing conversations and lyrics of the songs, where the performers express their feelings and use sign language. The aim of the show is to increase awareness about education for individuals with hearing impairments and to use sign language on a broader scale.
The directors, Hasna Mufidah and Heliqa Trizya, prepared the theater with the aim of enhancing the use of sign language and encouraging inclusivity. Working in the show are more than 60 performers and deaf individuals whose ages range between 16 and 40 for a period of three months.
